Welcome to the Milwaukee Chapter
In 2007, we celebrated our 25th year. We are the Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc (chapter #35) in Southeast Wisconsin. Not the first, but one of the biggest and best. Founded in February of 1982, we number around 250 to 275 members and we do enjoy our passion - musky fishing. We believe in providing for our members. We have a line of unique hats, jackets and shirts with our distinct logo provided by Scott Zoellick, renowned outdoorsman, artist and one of our chapter's life time members.
We are very proud of our Youth Fishing program, Outings for disabled, conservation and stocking. We are also active in the community in support of other youth, handicapped and environment activities. Up until 2006 we have been managing a pond in Delafield at the old fish hatchery where we successfully raised muskies for the local lakes. Now we are working on new rearing pond in the Vernon Marsh area in conjunction with the DNR. Completion expected in 2010. The Delafield pond will be converted to a kids pan fishing pond with facilities for the disabled. This also is planned to complete in 2010.
NewsCasts Newsletter
Issues of the News Casts, our Milwaukee Chapter newsletter, will be delivered free to your home. If you have a registered email address in the Muskies Inc International member system ("My Member Info" on the "Members Only" page), then you will receive an electronic version instead. The email version always contains more information. Did you ever think about writing your own fishing article for a magazine? That opportunity is yours through our newsletter. We also publish a "want ad" column for members who are selling their used equipment. You can find some real bargains on used equipment, or you can sell some of your old items.
Want to Get Involved?
There is always something going on in the Milwaukee Chapter and your opportunity to get involved is made possible through News Casts. We need active members. We welcome all members to join the present officers and board members in the business of running our organization. Elections are held each year to ensure that a broad scope of ideas is constantly being acted on to further the quality of muskie fishing in our area.
- Here are just a few things you can do to support our Chapter:
- Tend a booth at the Muskie Expo
- Volunteer to assist with our Youth fishing when dates are announced
- Volunteer to Work on the Annual Banquet or make a Donation
- Provide suggestions to improving any aspects of the club
- Join the Board and insert fresh ideas to our chapter
Getting involved in fishing related projects through the club is fun and gratifying. Winters seem to go by faster and more pleasantly while working on muskie fishing related projects.
Outings
An outing is an event where our members get together to fish and most of all have fun. In 2008 we ran our member outings on the 3rd Thursday of every month from May to September. In 2009 we may increase the outings, but it's unknown at this time. The best way to learn how to be a successful angler is to get out in the boat with someone who knows a little bit more than you do, and our outings provide that type of opportunity.
You can even gain a whole lot of satisfaction after participation in one of our youth outings. This year we're even hoping to get our 1st annual veteran's outing off the ground. Check out the outings and sign up.
The Quad-County Outing challenge is a head-to-head Chapter Challenge with the Flatlanders of Illinois and always held on opening weekend on Pewaukee Lake. It's an unorganized event that simply awards the winning chapter the bragging rights and the traveling trophy for the year.
Getting together at club outings furthers the friendships that we make with other members.
Tournaments
Winning a tournament can be as rewarding as catching a thirty pounder! Muskies, Inc. and Chapter tournaments are "catch and release" competitions. A friendly atmosphere always prevails at our tournaments. Sportsmanship and camaraderie are always at their highest level among competitors. We fish hard, but have a fun time as well. After the contest is over, anglers get together over drinks and food to tell of 'the one that got away,' the fish that cost them a win!
The Larry Kleeba: This is the Wisconsin Musky Inc Clubs, Annual Chapter Challenge and open only to MI members in Wisconsin. Each year one of the 10 Chapters in the state hosts a weekend tournament at the lake of their choice. It is a team event and the good times -and challenges- roll! Winner gets the Kleeba traveling trophy.
The Pewaukee Classic: One of the better muskie fishing tournaments in Southeast Wisconsin is the Pewaukee Classic. It's always hosted by our Chapter and takes place the Saturday before Mother's day. The Classic is open to the general public and we have drawn muskie anglers from Illinois, Minnesota and all areas of Wisconsin. The team works together to ensure accurate officiating takes place and each contestant has a good time. The money we raise at this event is used for conservation and future stocking of muskies right here in our own area. We do not raise money to stock fish in northern Wisconsin as other clubs do. Our treasury is spent right here where it should be, to ensure that our sons and daughters will have excellent muskie fishing in the future. The funds we collect at this tournament, along with our catch and release practices will help accomplish this goal.
The National Muskies Inc., Gil Hamm tournament: This tournament is open to all MI members. The winning Chapter of the prior year's tournament sponsors the next tournament and chooses the body of water to fish.
Attend one of our meetings. See what we're all about.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Elk's Lodge in Waukesha (except for June, July, August, November, and December) at 7:30 p.m. There is a Board Meeting at 6:00pm so join us for the planning. Our November meeting is adjusted for the gun deer hunt, and we usually meet on the third Tuesday during this month. Every meeting has a members' attendance award plus raffle prizes available.
Meeting Agendas: the main theme of our general meetings is to bring members up to date on Chapter events (past and future) and exchange tips, ideas, new methods and "hot" lake information. We bring in the "pros" as guest speakers. Build your own rods, make your own leaders, and learn which products give you the best value for your money and the most reliable equipment to purchase by listening to our guest speakers. Get a chance to talk with professional fishermen and guides who have spent thousands of hours on the water. They all share their wisdom and experiences with our members at our meetings. Usually, a lake-of-the-month presentation will highlight a specific body of water. A variety of lakes and rivers are discussed throughout the year from our own Pewaukee Lake to isolated Canadian waters. Members are given copies of lake maps with good fishing areas marked for them. Presentations also cover the best driving routes, places to stay, where to launch and many more points of interest. Do you have questions about a specific lake? Chances are that some of our members have successfully fished it and would be glad to assist you with your trip plans.
The best part of all is the time spent with other members; people who share your enthusiasm for fishing. Muskie anglers are a rare breed and because of that, friendships are made quickly among members.
