2010 Pewaukee Classic Recap
The Pewaukee Muskie Classic is a fund raising tournament. This year, we celebrated the 26th anniversary of this event. The money raised is used for our many club programs including our Muskie rearing and stocking effort for Okauchee and Pewaukee Lakes, summer youth outings, our veterans' memorial outing, monthly membership meetings with guest speakers and much more.
This year's tournament was open to Okauchee and Oconomowoc Lakes in addition to Pewaukee, but the bulk of anglers fished Pewaukee. The morning started off with temperatures in the low 40s for registration with strong winds out of the North / Northwest. Overcast sky seemed to keep the chill in the air. Surface temperature had dropped by as much as ten degrees from the weekend before. Some of our junior anglers giggled as they were fishing as small hail started to fall.
Fishing the tournament were 125 anglers that boated a record 25 fish ranging between 30 and 40 inches. Six anglers doubled and the top 3 are Mark Hartwig with a 39-1/2" and a 37-3/4" for first place, junior angler Kyle Warkoczewski with a 39" and a 35" for second place, and Mike Phelps with a 38" and a 32-1/2" for third place. We raised $3500 at the raffle tables, had 16 juniors fish, each junior angler received a bait casting rod, and raised $5414.91 overall for the event.
The big raffle winners were: Nick Trivison won the Frabill Muskie net, Adam Gerstmeier won a Plano box with lures, Mike Gariepy won a Plano box with lures, George Kasch won a portable ice shanty, Dave Hlavac won the Steve Miljat print, Shawn O'Hern won the Cave Run trip, and the Minnkota Terrova trolling motor winner was Mike Gariepy.
Thanks to our participants and sponsors. Joel Michel and Dennis Radloff donated half day guide trips. Bayview Lodge donated a stay at their resort in Minaki.
